Sesame Place San Diego opens in March 2022

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind famed Sesame Street, have announced the opening of the new Sesame Place San Diego theme park on March 26, 2022. The approximately 17-acre park will be the only Sesame Place on the West Coast and the second in the United States. Families and children of all ages can enjoy a variety of themed attractions and rides all year round. Like many other SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment parks, Sesame Place is a certified center for autism.

The new Sesame Place San Diego promises fun and adventure for the whole family: While 18 rides and thrilling water attractions, such as kid-friendly roller coasters, offer frenzied rides, one of the largest wave pools in all of Southern California offers a welcome refreshment. Some other highlights include the musical play area, the interactive Sesame Street neighborhood including the iconic steps, daily live entertainment, award-winning parades, unique photo opportunities, and of course, furry character encounters.

This is an exciting milestone for our company as it is the second Sesame Place in the United States and the first new theme park to open since 2013. We are thrilled to bring California a family-friendly vacation destination. Our goal is to provide a fun place where lifelong memories are created and fans experience what they love about the iconic show in a new way.

Interactive game all day at Sesame Place San Diego

The colorful world captivates visitors as they enter the park with a replica of the famous street. A variety of physical or digital experiences are offered in the neighborhood, where guests are entertained through interactive experiences while learning new things. One such experience is “Elmo’s Window”, which brings the red monster’s bedroom window to life and allows you to share special moments with Elmo and his friends with music and dancing. In the Bike Shop Tricycle Challenge, a digital game with motion recognition, little ones must use their bodies to control a virtual tricycle and collect numbers before time runs out.

The intercom system of the Sesame Street apartment provides additional entertainment. Pressing one of the buttons on the system plays funny responses from Grover, Rosita, Abby Cadabby and other characters. The “Sunny Day Carousel” is located in the center of the neighborhood, a colorful ride suitable for all ages. The ride is accompanied by the music and characters of Sesame Street, including Big Bird, who happily greets fans and rides the carousel.

Whirlwind rides and sparkling waterslides

The neighborhood and park are aimed at the whole family and children of all ages. Each ride is designed around a specific Sesame Street character. Cookie Climb takes visitors to the top of Cookie Monster-style towers, while Elmo’s Rockin ‘Rockets takes you on an imaginary journey through space in rocket-shaped swinging cars. The Grover’s Box Car Derby roller coaster, on the other hand, is a little quieter with its little hills, big bends, and mini jumps.

Heated pools and water slides such as “Bert’s Topsy Turvy Tunnels”, “Snuffy’s Spaghetti Slides”, “Oscar’s Rotten Rafts” or “Big Bird’s Rambling River” ensure water fun and coolness under the California sun. If you’re in the mood for something a little quieter, head to Big Bird’s Beach, a five-million-gallon wave pool surrounded by a sandy beach. “The Count’s Splash Castle” offers additional wet fun, with a 1,900 liter bucket of water pouring onto the castle below and inviting you to play and splash around.
