Scholarship applications can be submitted to the Culture Office until May 17, 2021 (deadline). The scholarship must start on 1 September 2021. At least 50 quarterly scholarships of 3,000 euros each can be awarded. The total volume of the scholarship program is therefore at least 150,000 euros. These are financed from budget funds for the promotion of free artistic and cultural projects.
Freelance artists and expressly also artistic and cultural mediators who have their creative focus or residence in Leipzig and are neither enrolled in a university nor in an apprenticeship or permanent employment relationship can apply. The artistic or intermediation activity must be carried out for profit and not only temporarily.
For the application, the cultural office has developed an online application together with the city forms service, which must be used for the application. The accompanying leaflet provided by the cultural office at www.leipzig.de/kulturfoerderung provides guidance for completing the online application.
The cultural office of the city of Leipzig decides whether to award a scholarship. In doing so, he is advised by interdepartmental advisory committees. Applications are assessed on the basis of defined and publicly accessible criteria. The cultural / artistic quality of the work project and the applicant’s previous work are decisive. Scholarship recipients will be selected in a multi-stage process, expected to be completed by mid-August 2021. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
In view of the deadline for applications, the cultural office offers advice: an online information event on the scholarship program will be held on 5 May 2021 from 4 to 5.30 pm. All necessary information (consultation times, online event) and application forms are available at www.leipzig.de/kulturfoerderung.
The scholarship program was established in 2020 against the backdrop of the Corona crisis. It can continue this year based on the budget decision taken by the City Council on March 31, 2021. With the renewed granting of the scholarships, the City of Leipzig wishes to support freelance artists and artistic and cultural mediators in the continuation and maintenance of their work artistic or conceptual. The bags can give life to new artistic impulses and new ideas for projects and events for the moment in which art and culture can be experienced again on site with the public.
