Vienna (OTS) – Starting this winter semester, the “Mondi International Scholarships” developed in collaboration with the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) will be available for the first time to socially or economically disadvantaged international students. Seven subsidized scholarships will be awarded, of which at least four are to women.
Inclusion is also reflected in the way access to education is designed. From our point of view, the lack of financial means should not be a reason for study not to start.Frauke Bastians, Senior Manager of Mondi Diversity and Inclusion, underlines the motivation for this support program.
Mondi, WU’s longtime cooperation partner, is a global packaging and paper company employing people from nearly 100 nations. “By 2030, we also want to increase the percentage of women at all levels from the current 21% to 30%. So four out of ten new hires will be women, ”says Bastians.
In Austria, Mondi employs 2,500 people across eight locations, including the group’s office in Vienna.
Equal opportunities regardless of the socio-economic context
More than 50% of international students from almost all regions of the world study in English language courses at WU. “The guiding principle of WU is that financial reasons should not be an obstacle to the international experience. It’s great that, thanks to the support of our partner Mondi, we can help students from abroad graduate from WU, “says WU Rector Edeltraud Hanappi-Egger. Mondi will make seven scholarships available for each of the 2021 academic years / 2022 and 2022/2023.
The program foresees that at least four of the seven funded scholarships are awarded to women. Each fellow receives financial support for up to two years in order to complete a master’s program at WU. In the current 2021/22 academic year, six female students and one male student from Brazil, India, Mexico, Vietnam, Russia and Turkey are starting their sponsored masters in Vienna.
