Together with the University of Augusta, entrepreneurs can promote the brightest minds in the region and win them over from the start. Here’s how the concept works.
Since 2011, the University of Augusta has participated in the federal government’s National Scholarship Program, or Deutschlandstipendium for short. The goal of this scholarship program is to counter the impending shortage of academics and promote the top executives of tomorrow. To this end, high-performing and willing students must be supported with 300 euros per month. At the same time, the goal is to open a perspective to those who are willing and able to study and who cannot afford to study for material reasons alone. In 2019, there were 28,159 fellows at 312 universities across Germany, 134 of them from the University of Augsburg.
150 euros from the private sector – 150 euros from the federal government
The concept provides that half of a monthly scholarship, or 150 euros, will be paid by individuals – by companies, foundations, former graduates or other sponsors. This private effort is then doubled by federal funds. With a private donation of 1,800 euros, the University of Augusta can sponsor a student for a full year.
Not only good grades pay off
The concept of performance on which the Deutschlandstipendium is based is deliberately broad: in the selection of fellows, the maximum verifiable return counts, but the focus is not only on good grades, but also on exceptional social commitment and on particular personal or family circumstances relating to the stock exchange. This is based on the belief that society and the economy need young talents who, beyond their professional qualities, are willing to take responsibility and successfully master extraordinary situations.
An investment that is valid for everyone
Encouraging talented young people, strengthening your position, or returning some of the support you may have received yourself – there are many good reasons why entrepreneurs are involved in the Augsburg University Scholarship Program. This scholarship program turns everyone involved into a winner. Sponsors benefit from regular exchanges with fellows and thus put themselves in contact with qualified and committed junior staff at an early stage. And for the region and the university, this creates excellent opportunities to profile itself as a future-oriented science and business venue, to develop and expand networks, and to retain highly qualified specialists and managers.
Doing good and at the same time getting to know exceptional students are two compelling arguments for getting involved in the Deutschlandstipendium. The University of Augusta would like to thank all those who have pledged their support for the next round, starting October 1, 2021, and looks forward to new sponsors.
