RippleX announces the opening phase of XRPL grant winners

The development team behind RippleX has announced the winners of the first round of the XRPL grant program. TUSD 2 million will be awarded to 25 winners out of 100 candidates.

The XRPL Grants program was established to provide “developer grants” for developed projects that complement or build upon the XRP Ledger (XRPL). It was established by RippleX and XRPL Labs, with the former serving as the award presenter and the latter as the program’s technical advisor.

A total of 25 beneficiaries were selected from “more than 100” proposals, including grants totaling nearly $ 2 million. These beneficiaries are from over 10 different countries around the world, and three of these applicants were from members of Ripple University’s blockchain research initiative.

According to the announcement, the 25 honorees “address a wide range of issues and opportunities, including:”

  • The development of NFT for various sectors (retail, art, music, sports, digital advertising and carbon capture).
  • Learning tools and platforms to build upon and interact with XRPL.
  • Data visualization tools.
  • Payment and security solutions.

The official website states that the program was created with the following goals:

  • Non-fungible tokens (NFT)
  • central infrastructure
  • development tools
  • UX of the developer
  • safety

And mention the following hypothetical use cases:

  • An XRPL based NFT marketplace
  • An XRPL (minting) based NFT issuance platform
  • Portfolio support for XRPL-based NFTs
  • XRPL-based NFT tools and services

To be selected as award winners in this scholarship program, applicants had to be selected after a five-step application process. The last step involves a waiting period of 3 to 4 months, after which the final interviews followed.

RippleX and XRPL laboratories

XRPL Labs is an XRP Ledger (XRPL) development team supported directly by Ripple / RippleX. Current projects include xumm (which is now available on the App Store and Google Play Store) and Cold Storage OS (currently in development for the “internal beta” release, described on the website listed above). Ripple invested in XRPL Labs in February 2019, most notably through its Xpring division, which has since been renamed RippleX.

RippleX is the name of the “global payment platform” created by Ripple, built on the basis of the XRP ledger, which “allows developers and users to send and receive payments on any currency and network”.
