The 10 coolest ziplines in the world

Fly like a bird, at least almost: you can make this dream come true with a little courage if you rush into the depths attached to a wire rope. Ziplines or rope slides connect high points, for example to cross gorges or bodies of water.

Zipline in the Harz Mountains: whiz 1000 meters above the dam

You are attached to a wire rope with carabiners or special pulleys and reach spectacular speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour. Incidentally, you will find the longest zipline in Germany in the Harz mountains: since 2012 it has led 1000 meters up the Rappbodetalsperre at a height of 120 meters.

Are you in the mood for a quintessential adrenaline rush? We show you ten spectacular ziplines around the world.

1. Arenal Volcano Park, Costa Rica

Beware of adrenaline junkies: In the midst of Costa Rica’s wild rainforests you can take a discovery tour to dizzying heights. The Sky Trek in Arenal Volcano Park begins discreetly with a leisurely gondola ride over the mighty jungle.

But when you get to the top of the mountain, you need some nerve – a total of seven zip lines take you back to the valley at dizzying speed and up to 200 meters high.

Spectacular trips to the Costa Rican jungle await you on the Sky Trek.

The longest cable is 760 meters long, so sometimes you can’t even see the end of your spectacular ride as you boldly rush into the abyss!

2. Zip World Velocity, UK

You can experience the ‘very British’ action in Wales: at an old quarry site, zipline lines several kilometers long await you, allowing you to zip through the air at up to 112km / h while seated. You can find them in Zipworld Velocity, which is part of Zip World Penrhyn Quarry.

There you will also find the Velocity zip line, which offers a real speed ride. You will fly through the air at 190 kilometers per hour, upside down while lying on your stomach on a special frame. Definitely not a trip for the faint of heart!

3. The zipline of monsters, Puerto Rico

In the heart of the Caribbean, near relaxing white sand beaches lined with palm trees and crystal clear waters, there is a real treat for adrenaline junkies! In the Toro Verde Natural Adventure Park, near Orocovis, you will find, among other things, a zipline that allows you to fly through the jungle on a total of eight wire ropes.

If you dare, you can upgrade to the Beast Zipline, which carries its daring passengers 1500 meters at around 100km / h while lounging near the treetops. But the top spot for adrenaline junkies is yet to come: the Monster Zipline is a whopping 2500 meters long, making it a world leader! At around 150km / h, run through the jungle if you dare!

4. La Tyrolienne, French Alps

If you’ve ever been to the French Alps, you’ll know how good winter sports are here – the beautiful scenery invites visitors to some winter sports adventures. But are you already familiar with the 1,300-meter La Tyrolienne zipline, which allows you to whiz over snow-capped peaks at 100 kilometers per hour?

At 230 meters above sea level you can enjoy an amazing perspective, if you have the head for it at speed. If you haven’t taken your breath away afterwards, the Val Thorens ski area offers a few other winter attractions such as a dog sled tour or a mountain bike in the snow.

5. Zip 2000, South Africa

In the north of South Africa there are not only impressive landscapes, unique cities or wild animals that are worth a trip, but also a zipline that makes you beat faster. The Zip 2000 in the Sun City complex is not only extremely steep, it also allows you to fly through the air at 160 kilometers per hour.

The highlight: you can experience this adventure on your own, but you don’t have to. On a tandem flight, you simply take your friend, friend or travel acquaintance with you and thus create a shared memory that won’t be forgotten so quickly.
