Fly like a bird, at least almost: you can make this dream come true with a little courage if you rush into the depths attached to a wire rope. Ziplines or rope slides connect high points, for example to cross gorges or bodies of water.
Zipline in the Harz Mountains: whiz 1000 meters above the dam
You are attached to a wire rope with carabiners or special pulleys and reach spectacular speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour. Incidentally, you will find the longest zipline in Germany in the Harz mountains: since 2012 it has led 1000 meters up the Rappbodetalsperre at a height of 120 meters.

1. Arenal Volcano Park, Costa Rica
Beware of adrenaline junkies: In the midst of Costa Rica’s wild rainforests you can take a discovery tour to dizzying heights. The Sky Trek in Arenal Volcano Park begins discreetly with a leisurely gondola ride over the mighty jungle.
But when you get to the top of the mountain, you need some nerve – a total of seven zip lines take you back to the valley at dizzying speed and up to 200 meters high.
The longest cable is 760 meters long, so sometimes you can’t even see the end of your spectacular ride as you boldly rush into the abyss!
2. Zip World Velocity, UK
You can experience the ‘very British’ action in Wales: at an old quarry site, zipline lines several kilometers long await you, allowing you to zip through the air at up to 112km / h while seated. You can find them in Zipworld Velocity, which is part of Zip World Penrhyn Quarry.
There you will also find the Velocity zip line, which offers a real speed ride. You will fly through the air at 190 kilometers per hour, upside down while lying on your stomach on a special frame. Definitely not a trip for the faint of heart!
3. The zipline of monsters, Puerto Rico
In the heart of the Caribbean, near relaxing white sand beaches lined with palm trees and crystal clear waters, there is a real treat for adrenaline junkies! In the Toro Verde Natural Adventure Park, near Orocovis, you will find, among other things, a zipline that allows you to fly through the jungle on a total of eight wire ropes.
If you dare, you can upgrade to the Beast Zipline, which carries its daring passengers 1500 meters at around 100km / h while lounging near the treetops. But the top spot for adrenaline junkies is yet to come: the Monster Zipline is a whopping 2500 meters long, making it a world leader! At around 150km / h, run through the jungle if you dare!

4. La Tyrolienne, French Alps
If you’ve ever been to the French Alps, you’ll know how good winter sports are here – the beautiful scenery invites visitors to some winter sports adventures. But are you already familiar with the 1,300-meter La Tyrolienne zipline, which allows you to whiz over snow-capped peaks at 100 kilometers per hour?
At 230 meters above sea level you can enjoy an amazing perspective, if you have the head for it at speed. If you haven’t taken your breath away afterwards, the Val Thorens ski area offers a few other winter attractions such as a dog sled tour or a mountain bike in the snow.
5. Zip 2000, South Africa
In the north of South Africa there are not only impressive landscapes, unique cities or wild animals that are worth a trip, but also a zipline that makes you beat faster. The Zip 2000 in the Sun City complex is not only extremely steep, it also allows you to fly through the air at 160 kilometers per hour.

6. Adrenaline Xtreme Adventures Zip Line, South Tyrol
To experience a real adrenaline rush, you don’t necessarily have to wander into the distance: in South Tyrol you can take an adventurous journey with a view of the Dolomites. The Zipline Adrenaline Xtreme Adventures awaits you at Plan de Corones near Sankt Vigils.
Over a length of more than three kilometers glitters on eight wire ropes. You go from the starting point at about 1600 meters above sea level and descend to the valley to Sankt Vigils. During the turbulent race, on which speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour can be reached, there are spectacular views of the peaks of the Dolomites. And all while soaring in the skies 100 meters above the ground.
If you want even more adventure later on, you can enjoy the impressive landscape on a road trip or test your strength with climbing, hiking, downhill biking or rafting. There is also a giant swing very close by, with which you can swing 15 meters above the abyss. Seems like a no-brainer after the zipline tour.
7. Zip flyer in the Himalayas, Nepal
In the middle of the Nepalese Himalayas in Pokhara, west of Kathmandu, is the Zipflyer, an 1,800-meter-long zipline stretched to a spectacular 600-meter height.
The incline of the zipline is 56 degrees, so you will fly over the abyss at 120km / h, definitely not for the faint of heart! Your adventure can easily be combined with the Annapurna Trek: you walk one of the ten highest mountains in the world.
8. The zipline valley in Charmey, Switzerland
In the canton of Friborg in Switzerland there is a whole “Valley of the Zip Lines” for adventurers from the age of eleven. A total of thirteen ziplines with a length of up to 300 meters and a height of 400 meters offer wonderful views of the beautiful natural landscape – adrenaline rush included.
The adventure begins at the Vounetz mountain station, which leads to the adventure park at the middle station. In combination with the hiking trails, the tour through the protected environment of the Friborg Prealps takes more than two hours.
9. Jaguar Paw Zipline, Belize
Huge primeval forests where jaguars roam free – the tiny state of Belize in South America is worth a trip for that reason alone. This is complemented by a visit to the Jaguar Paw Zipline, which leads through the rainforest. If you look closely while driving, you might even spot one of the special big cats.
Directly through the jungle we go to the first platform of the zipline. Several zip lines allow you to float above the jungle trees and also discover an ancient Mayan site along the way. The highlight of the tour is the last zipline – here you fly from the jungle into a cave! What awaits you there?
