Jury spokesman and architect Christian Lehmhaus, who oversaw the competition for the city of Eutin, praised the small-scale structure of the planned school complex, which fits perfectly into the location. “The architects designed the place, which is characterized by its location in the middle of nature right on the small lake,” said Lehmhaus.

Martin Klehs, head of the City Service and Tourism Department of the City of Eutin, was also very pleased with the result of the competition: “It will be an excellent school that will set new standards and strengthen Eutin as a long-term school.” And since the traffic training area and the Se day center remain on site, a modern educational venue with many possibilities is created.

Individual planning adapts very well to local conditions. Above all, the school’s requirements would be met. “The classrooms are all on the ground floor and are spacious,” emphasized Klehs. In addition, there are many green gaps between the individual buildings.

Campus brings together three schools

Simone Handschuck, head of the city’s specialized services for central real estate, stressed that the houses, which are networked and separated from each other, will meet the specifications, requirements, wishes and pedagogical concepts of the three types of hosted school.

The “School at the Little Lake” project consists of the Gustav-Peters-School branch, the mental development support center at Papenmoor school and the learning support center at Albert Mahlstedt school. In total, the 5,000-square-meter campus will be used by 320 students. There is also a school open all day. The small gym is replaced by a new three-court sports hall with grandstand.

In place of the current administrative wing, the construction of a sports field is planned. Near the traffic training area there is a roundabout with a rest area, where pupils and children from the nursery school can get on and off. From there, the path leads directly to the central building, which, in addition to the staff and office rooms, mainly contains a multifunctional, gallery-like hall that can be used as an auditorium and canteen. From this area, students can go directly to the adjoining buildings with the classrooms and specialist classrooms.
