A free Meta sponsored training for metaverse designers in France?

On Thursday 27 October the Metavers Academy was launched in Marseille in collaboration with the Simplon, the Southern region and Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Messenger).

Inaugurated in 2013, Simplon is a social and solidarity company that offers training in the digital professions. Through its network of over one hundred schools in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, it has been able to train more than 20,000 people. The school is present in Marseille, in a beautiful sunny cocoon dedicated to committed entrepreneurs who want to build the future of the city of Marseille and called: “Le Cloître”.

In these premises, the augmented reality companies, the management of Sempione, but also Laurent Solly Director of Southern Europe of Meta and Renaud Muselier President of the Southern Region met last Thursday to launch the Metavers Academy, which will be, thanks to funding from Meta and the South Region, completely free for its students.

It has been observed that companies seek people trained in emerging metaverse professions. It is also the companies in the region that will allow this new academy to function, because they know the needs of the market and therefore allow you to adapt the training. Ludovic Chaigneau, CEO of the SigmaLynx design office specializing in 3D modeling of building information, insists for example on the 3D and immersive need in the construction and real estate sector.

France Competence identifies the profession of developer designer specializing in immersive and metaverse technologies as both emerging and already under pressure on the job market. For this reason the training of the Metavers Academy will be dedicated to this learning.

The afternoon was marked by a visit to the premises of the Sempione al Chiostro, with meetings of students and companies, then a conference, a discussion with the press and finally a cocktail party. The latter is at the center of a sort of fair for the presentation of goods and services offered by the school’s partner companies, already engaged in welcoming their work-study students.

During the conference, Véronique Saubot, CEO of Simplon, reminds us that 6,000 digital jobs are vacant in the southern region. Training is therefore essential in this situation. That of the Metavers Academy begins on December 5 in Marseille. It will extend to other cities in France: Nice, then Paris and Lyon. Madame Saubot quotes Mark Twain “They didn’t know it was impossible, so they did it,” she adds: “So we did it!”

Renaud Muselier explains to us that all the science fiction books he read in his youth, especially those by Jules Verne, ended up being made. The metaverse is therefore not so unreal. “We must be pioneershe said before the assembly.

He sees in the different uses of the metaverse, the possibility, among other things, of promoting the Southern region (which should no longer be called PACA, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, under penalty of the lesson of the keeper of the place), to international level. The region is in fact the second most visited region in France, itself the most visited country in the world. He specifies that the metaverse could also become a tool to preserve some sites in the region at all costs, from mass tourism by making them visitable in 3D immersion, for example.

When asked by BeinCrypto which app in the metaverse he is most excited to see materialize, he says health care. As a doctor, he wants to see both medical training take place partly in the virtual world, but also the enterprise of seeing this technology one day allow a specialized surgeon to be able to save a patient that he could not have reached beyond measure because of the physical distance.

Meta Southern Europe director Laurent Solly indicates that 70% of digital professions in 2030 are still unknown today. He cites an Analysis Group study that estimates that the metaverse alone will represent $ 440 billion of annual GDP in Europe by 2030. The company, remember, is also the one that paid the largest research and development budget in this sector. .

He is keen to clarify that as part of the partnership with the South Region and Simplon for this new Academy, the Meta group is not formed specifically in the Metavers of its group but in technology in general, wanting to develop the ecosystem as a whole. Students will then be free to work for themselves or for the employer of their choice.

Mr. Solly tells us during his talk to the press that Meta’s first virtual reality research laboratory outside of the United States is located in France, in Paris. When asked if French legislation risks being a brake on the development of the metaverse in France, he replies that it is being defined. And this above all at the European level. He takes the example of the two directives approved by Europe DSA and DMA, and says that the EU will therefore now switch to the regulation of the virtual world, which Meta encourages.

In fact, he remembers that his company participated in the reflection on the GDPR, underlining the importance of regulation in the digital context and hopes that democratically elected governments will read to create a framework for the ecosystem.

Mr. Muselier underlines the scarcity of partners who are members of the “Big Five” (often nicknamed “GAFAM”) with regional institutions, and therefore enthusiastically welcomes this catalyst that is Meta. Accepting this bet on the metaverse, Renaud Muselier joins the handful of rare politicians to understand the importance of Web3, which is already considered the industry of the 4th industrial revolution.
