Metaverse and creative industries: Proposals for the creation of “Francophonie en VR” and a competition “Les avatars du patrimoine francophones”

The president of the France Immersive association, Nicolas Dupain, has proposed the creation of “Francophonie en VR”, a sort of unifying space to restructure the francophone immersive ecosystem which, he said, is a formidable lever for prosperity and community.

Speaking at the conference on “The Metaverse and the creative cultural industries in the era of digital Francophonie”, he invited public and private Francophone structures to reflect together on this proposal in order to continue the exchange around the many opportunities that the virtual space really offers, which they will have to develop real content.

In this sense, he considered that the Metaverse, although recent, is a tool that can be extremely powerful for preparing activities, starting meetings, discovering professions, but also for communicating or collaborating with a real sense of mutual presence, and this while maintaining a very strong anchoring in our physical realities because the idea is to have a new emotional and cognitive vehicle to enhance this communion and this doing together over time.

This idea “Francophonie in VR” can serve as a francophone reference of immersion from this debate itself towards a very broad knowledge base with all the technical, pedagogical, monitoring, evaluation of materials, experiences, knowledge, etc. information.

This will allow the entire French-speaking community interested in diving to find in one place the information they need to be able to grasp this topic in the best possible conditions.

Indeed, it is a question of designing the future of this virtual French-speaking universe which will give substance and continuity to this debate with the aim of being able to capitalize on these collective wills to build this new relationship with the world that this technology allows over and over again.

Furthermore, the idea of creating “a francophone digital space to spotlight artists, creators, talents and tech startups, to promote our cultures, our histories, our diversity” was shared by several speakers.

Géraldine Bueken, president of the Brussels XR4 Heritage program (a heritage enhancement program based on the phygital use of emerging technologies) considered that the Metaverse offers in fact a kind of complete world in which a network arena of characters is created around collaborative writings that can be nurtured by the audience around great creative potential. In his view, the World Heritage Sites, several of which are threatened or endangered, can be a starting point.

From this point of view, a competition of “francophone heritage avatars” can be a starting point to see the invisible and unsung heroes of our collective history that will allow everyone to discover a historical world from a new angle and which is not available in history books or museums.

The main idea is to identify new talents and new narratives in order to develop and promote cultural experiences in line with social customs and the expectations of the new generations.

Around the conviction of the role of the digital Francophonie in the creation of a Metaverse ecosystem, especially from the point of view – social, cultural, economic, technological, etc. – , several other francophone projects were presented, in various sectors, to keep up with the opportunities and innovations and to highlight the first experiments, immersive platforms both in Tunisia and in the francophone world.

These ideas and projects were presented at the conference “Metaverse and cultural creative industries in the digital age of the Francophonie”, organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs through the TICDCE in collaboration with the group of French-speaking employers, the FIPA, the CONECT , the group of French-speaking employers Institute of Tunisia, Wallonia Brussels of Tunisia and the DigiArt Living Lab, in the presence of numerous expert creators from the French-speaking community.

The debates focused on the challenges, opportunities and perhaps the risks of this digital revolution and this, around three panels focused on the world of METAVERSE which, although the definitions are multiple to date, is described as the successor of the Internet that allows to live more immersive experiences, where time passes, where everyone is connected, to work, go out, consume, study, find loved ones…
