It’s known. The blockchain can be used and useful for many areas of economic and social life. This is what the town hall of Neuilly-sur-Seine experienced by organizing elections with the Tezos-based Electis voting application. This vote is the first and could lead to more events of this kind, in this commune, recently designated as the most expensive place to buy property in France. decryption.
A first and a success for Electis!
Over the past week, nearly 1,500 middle school students from the city of Neuilly-sur-Seine elected their representatives to the Municipal Youth Council. The trial took place on the Electis voting platform, based on the Tezos blockchain. An operation that follows an announcement made last year by the municipal authorities. In particular, they specified that not only Electis would be used to conduct these elections, but the application would be used for other purposes.
Technically, the votes through Electis are stored securely and transparently on Tezos. The results are verifiable by each voter. However, they remain confidential, thanks to the use of homomorphic encryption algorithms.
“This first-ever Youth City Council election using a blockchain solution was appropriated by middle school students in the city. No irregularities were found on the platform. »commented Lucas Véran, deputy mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
It should be remembered that before these elections, the Neuilly-sur-Seine authorities used Electis to conduct less important democratic processes. Among other things, the team behind Electis has made it clear that more serious use cases are starting to loom on the horizon. This could ultimately pave the way for a more optimal democratic future and more successful elections.
However the Electis application is making its way. It is used by three United Nations organizations. The Association of Cryptocurrency Enterprises and Start-ups, Singapore (ACCESS), used Electis to elect new members to its board of directors, at its 2022 annual general meeting. In addition to a trial in Switzerland, it was also successfully tested from 80 leading universities from around the world.
